East Africa

Maasai from Ngorongoro, Sengwer from the Cherangany Hills, and Aweer from the coast, gather to share with each other the stories of our communities and our struggles.

Communities’ Assemblies are how communities have come together since the dawn of time, to decide what is good for them and Mother Nature. They can help communities claim back their power from decades of colonial capitalists’ regimes of oppressive greedy rule of exclusion that has seen destruction of our communities good governances systems and Nature cohesiveness. The time of coming together and acting as a family of Global community assemblies is NOW to save our Planet Earth.

Communities own governance systems have for so long been used to maintain cohesion within, with other communities, and with the surroundings ("nature"). The Colonial power forced communities to adhere to Colonial ideologies despite the traditional systems having been acknowledged in law (for example, in the 2010 Constitution of Kenya). Communities have continued to use local/indigenous gatherings to solve issues, give directions and enhance good governance. This is what we refer to as community assemblies in this context.
